How do I properly use OpenTK on emedded system like Angstrom Linux on the Beaglebone?

I tried running a simple OpenTK application and the compiler on the Beaglebone basically said it couldn't find X11 is there a way I can use OpenTK to draw 2d object with SDL or frame buffer? Perfferably SDL as I read that SDL will be faster then frame buffer (natrually) I'd rather write my own GUI menu states that feel comfortable on my embedded system usage then use a window system (GDM) that was meant for desktop, So i thought I could use OpenTK to draw buttons, graphs, etc instead of using X11/GDM/XWindowSystem
